Book Title: No More Amoxicillin
Author: Dr. Mary Ann Block
Some of my take-aways from the book:
- The eustachian tubes in adults are more vertical while a child’s tubes are more horizontal. For this reason, fluid buildup in the ear is more common in children. This explains why most children outgrow ear infections and why infants should not feed themselves while lying flat.
- The underlying cause of ear infections is not the bacteria. The root cause is fluid build up. When the eustachian tube drains properly, there is no fluid buildup and bacteria cannot thrive.
- Exclusively breastfed infants have fewer ear infections. The decrease incidence rate of ear infections is directly related to how long an infant was breastfed without supplementation of formula or food.
This book would make a great shower gift to new moms so that they can be well informed about ear infections.
