February 2019
Thanks for reading my blog! You might want to know a little more about me: I'm a Christian wife and mom. I have two sons who are both married to lovely ladies. Both boys were homeschooled through high school and after they started college, I had time to pursue my interest in natural health.
I've been interested in natural foods and herbs for as long as I can remember. I began studying nutrition as a teenager because I wanted to explore vegetarianism. I didn't become a full vegetarian until 1992, but it has been the best choice for me. I do cook meat for the rest of my family, however. So I may be sharing some recipes that are not strictly vegetarian!
In 2008, I was diagnosed with a digestive disorder called gastroparesis (mine is of unknown cause). In a nutshell, it is extremely slow digestion. This causes many symptoms that vary among diagnosed individuals. There is no 'fix' - only symptom management. I personally manage my symptoms with a combination of an anti-nausea drug and diet. The normal GP-friendly diet consists of low fat, low fiber foods. Unfortunately, it's not a very healthy diet, so that prompted more nutritional and herbal research!
In 2010, my youngest son was diagnosed with ADHD (he was 16). Through a trial diet, he discovered that he was gluten intolerant - so he lives gluten free........ again, more research!
After searching for a good online school to learn more about nutrition and herbal medicine, I met Jessie Hawkins with Vintage Remedies at a homeschool conference. I was sold and signed up to take classes. Dr. Hawkins has since opened one of the only accredited colleges of natural health in the country, The Franklin Institute of Wellness. I am currently enrolled in several programs to continue my education in both herbalism and aromatherapy.
Again, thank for reading - I'm honored you are here!
I will have a new website up sometime this summer, but if you are interested in a consultation, just shoot me an e-mail as I am taking clients.
